At how quickly all of the above may change. In my office I have the newspaper photo of Isael's slain leader, Rehav'am Ze'evi, whose sixth murder anniversary was today. It is remarkable how many of my off-the-street every-day Israeli patients see the photo, and proclaim he had always been right. Ze'evi was the first to formulate the plan of Transfer by Consent, in which the Jewish State will buy out Arabs willing to emigrate, while making certain that the Land of Israel, everything West of the Jordan, remains exclusively the political home of the Jewish people.

In reality, he was right, proven again and again. Israel is unable to relinquish control of the hinterland, must exrcise control over every inch of the territory west of the River, in pain of immediate bombardment with human and trajectory missiles. Many have tried, and they all failed. Rabin Peres, Barak, Netanyahu, 15 years of effort to relinquish in peace, all failed.

Now the sea-change. No one is happy with the present self-destructive trend. Almost all Israelis see the present Knesset and Parliament as singularly inept, corrupt, weakling and untrustworthy. Their words are nothing, their deeds unworthy of mention. The Knesset is only there because if elections were called, most would lose their seats. So they procrastinate, call to have charges against Olmert to be witheld till he loses his job, hoping miracle will intervene. Perhaps a successful raid on Iranian Nuclear capability (test run about a month ago over Syria and Turkey) A major earhtquake that will topple ninety percent of poorly-contructed housing, and the temple mount. Miracles, unplanned but all too familliar in the holy Land.

I and many like-minded citizens have registered a new political party that places Zionism, unadulterated, simple, and progressive right in the center of the Agenda. The land will not be partitioned. Isaeli civillian law will be applied to the whole land. Foreign citizens, such as Falasteenians and Peruvians (the letter P does not exist in Arabic, hence no Palestinians exist) will be fairly treated unless they pose a danger to the rule of Jewish Law, in which case they will be extradited to their land of Citizenship (Gaza or jordan) All Israeli-born holders of Birth certificate will be conscripted into Security Establishment, as a pre-requisite for full-fledged citizenship, (the right to vote, the right to be elected, social safety net, etc) The ecological abuse of the land will be stopped and exchaged for stewardship of the Land for future Jewish generations.

Its a big project, to undo 30 years of neglect, but then it is a far bigger job to undo two thousand years of Diaspora. As for American jews, Israel is their Eternal inheritance whether they see it as such or not. Unfortunately those who do not are likely not to remain Jewish, not for the first time in jewish History when hope of returning to Zion wore thin. Despair not, the present is not bleak, is is merely foggy.
