your reference to Hitler's and Stalin's mistakes are disputableReader comment on item: [Iraqi] WMD Lies Submitted by Vadim Levenson (United States), Oct 7, 2003 at 15:09 Dear Dr. Pipes,Thank you for your outstanding role in the ideological struggle, which is of utmost importance today. However, your reference to Hitler's and Stalin's mistakes is disputable. It is evident that Hitler's decision was due to the imminent threat of Soviet invasion - it was the only means to prevent the immediate catastrophe of his regime and to prolong it for almost 4 years. As for Stalin, his mistake was only in timing and underestimation of Hitler's reaction. With better timing he could conquer continental Europe in 1941. I think that parallel between the war against Hitler and the war against Islamic terrorism, between Hitler's supporters and "neutralists" and modern liberals could be very useful in explaining the present political situation to many peoples. The other question is the link between the modern anti-war activists and the supporters of the communist regime in time of its expansion in Europe, Asia, Africa and America. Are they the same people, who acquit 50 million victims in Russia, 30 or more in China, 1 million killed by Pol Pot, etc.? What is the political, financial, psychological basis of the destructive "peace movement" of previous time and "anti-war", or anti-globalists movement of today? Thank you once more. He who mistrusted everyone trusted in Hitler and in turn dealt honestly with him.DP << Previous Comment Next Comment >> Reader comments (46) on this item
