A majority of leaders and clerics of Muslims have done them a great disservice...Reader comment on item: The Organization of the Islamic Conference Gets Feisty Submitted by Kattey (United States), Mar 21, 2008 at 21:31 and the rest of us as well. This evil nasty brand of Islam comes from the Wahhabis in Arabia, who solidified their power a couple hundred years ago with the Royal family and have included in their beliefs what must be ancient Arab customs. I used to correspond with an educated Pakistani who told me he doesn't want the majority of Muslims ever to pull themselves up out of poverty or become educated. It's easier to control them and use them if they remain ignorant. The present King Abdullah seems to be making efforts to modernize, and he is making some progress. It's heartening to see since he spent so much of his life living in a tent. I've read he has a tent by his palace where he goes to think and drink camels milk and eat dates. He's building a science university where men and women can mingle, the west will be welcome and the religious police will be banned. Other ME leaders give hope too. The handsome King and beautiful Queen of Jordan (I call them the Cinderella couple) are also making strides to educate and raise the standard of living of Jordanians. Qatar, Kuwait, and Abu Dhabi (UAE) too. That leaves Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Gaza and Egypt still struggling. Egyptian President Mubarak is criticized over human rights, but he has to keep the Muslim Brotherhood in line for fear of them taking over the country. The Brotherhood says, "islam is the solution." Yeah, right. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
