deeper discussionReader comment on item: The Organization of the Islamic Conference Gets Feisty Submitted by G.Vishvas (India), Mar 29, 2008 at 22:18 respected Mr. Curmally Kuran tells muslims that they alone have the right to determine what is good and bad in the entire human society. The muslims are the preferred ones of an arabic 7th century god called allah. This allah says that islam is the final perfect religion and one who does not have islam is lost here and in the yonderworld. The kuran commands the muslims to terrorize those who oppose islam's absolute and total hegemony. You believe whatever you want to believe and I believe whatever I want to believe - that sounds nice, but is problematic in a globalised small world. Islam is having evil consequences for many - both muslims and non-muslims. Under such circumstances it is irresponsible not to analyse deeply and admit the deficiencies in one's own religion (be it islam or hindu religions or whatever). Islam contains defects and deficiencies and many elements of fascism and totalitarianism. Hindu religions also contain such elements and that has to be openly mentioned and not covered up. We have to talk about it openly without being threatened by fanatics who call every criticism as blapshemy and try to suppres it. Your email sounds pious - but piety is very often a cover up for intellectual laziness or even dishonesty. Islam is a harsh narrow-minded aggressive arrogant land-greedy religion that tolerates no criticism or rejection and this has to be exposed and countered. There may be muslims like you who are quietist or tolerant (at least you have presented yourself as such in this particular email) - but that cannot be said of islam as a whole. "You are good and I am good" - such a sentiment can lead to a dangerous hypocrisy. "We want to be better, we are not good enough" - that should be the attitude. This will avoid hypocrisy. As regards islam being the fastest growing religion: this is a typical muslim argument - a very silly one. Maggots grow fast in a dead animal - does that mean they are good for human health? Growth rate is no proof of something being good or correct. Islam's greed shines forth through this argument about islam being good because so many people are muslims or becoming muslims. Islam's goodness will be decided on the basis of its actual performance of the past 1400 years. Not on the basis of how many timid fools become or remain muslims. I can't express it less harshly. Islam is a harsh religion and has to be judged harshly. I can't avoid that. I don't see anything about islam or about being a muslim which a muslim can be proud of - if he is honest, if he is allowed to be honest. Transcend your indoctrination and fear and then you will see what is right or wrong about or in islam.
