Western And Non-Muslim Policy-Makers Need To Create An Anti-Sharia BlocReader comment on item: The Organization of the Islamic Conference Gets Feisty Submitted by GWK (United States), Mar 26, 2008 at 08:34 Dr. Pipes, You have already seen the horrific ways that Muslims treated the Coptic Christians and Egyptian Jews and how the fanatics in once-secular Iraq have persecuted Assyrian Christians and Iraqi Jews. As the Arabization of non-Arab Muslim populations presses on, these types of problems and the Saudi-driven move for global sharia as a basis for all law proceeds apace. One can only expect that if allowed to continue to expand, global sharia will be imposed on secular Muslims and then on the population at large. (As an aside, an interesting article on Muslim home schooling was posted in today's NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/26/us/26muslim.html?hp=&adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1206533681-f4jsfXAYYRdb2dkDxPO7FQ) Cold Warriors and neo-conservatives had little appreciation for the ability of a non-aligned theocratic movement originating in a handful of radically conservative mosques to explode into a global movement against freedom and secularism; and then to spin into another radical movement against any religion and belief set that disagreed with its own theocratic, sharia-bound world view. Now that the evidence is in that this theocratic movement has legs and a life of its own, western policy-makers MUST begin to start blunting its effectiveness or else western freedoms will disappear before our children's grandchildren reach adulthood. And this may mean consulting on a global basis with the Chinese, Latin Americans, and non-Muslim Asians and Africans to determine the threat that Muslim exceptionalism holds for our shared values and freedoms.
