Israel's championReader comment on item: Abba Eban's Eloquence on Israel's 10th Anniversary Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), May 14, 2008 at 17:50 Abba Eban's responses in the interview were some of the most moving and eloquent that I have ever heard. It is obvious that Mr. Eban loved Israel, the nation and its people, and that he was a great defender of the tiny nation during its growing pains in the 20th Century. He truly believed in the future of Israel, regardless of the opinions of the rest of the world, including the Arab nations. Although Mike Wallace, like any other interviewer, tried to trip up Mr. Eban several times, Mr. Eban remained cool, calm and collected, giving intelligent, articulate answers and never once appearing annoyed with Mr. Wallace. Would that Israel had a man of similar greatness to steer her in the right direction during these perilous times! By the way, although a non-smoker, I did enjoy the nostalgic Parliament commercials, very indicative of the time when a smoker enjoyed the freedom that is now denied.
