Eban's personaReader comment on item: Abba Eban's Eloquence on Israel's 10th Anniversary Submitted by Shishir (United Arab Emirates), May 18, 2008 at 10:59 On a more serious note, I agree with Joe Kaffir though only partially. Winston Churchill was a person who didnt mince words and spoke his mind. Of course Eban being a post war diplomat of newly established state in a highly volatile region cant do that. A main problem with Eban is how he percieved in Israel. His polished English , three piece suits and lack of military service did not exactly endear him to the mainstream hard boiled ,jeans and tshirt, Zionist tough nuts of the era. Then again as we see from this interview ,he does seem to be an ardent Zionist. Would Ehud Olmert display the same self confidence in defending Israel ,be it with words or weapons? I think not!
