Aubrey (Abba) EbanReader comment on item: Abba Eban's Eloquence on Israel's 10th Anniversary Submitted by Alan (United Kingdom), Aug 2, 2008 at 19:41 As a teenager in one of the Zionist youth movements, I always enjoyed listening to the speeches of Abba Eban. He was an Oxford Don and his command of the English Language was formidable . How well I remember his speeches at UN and elsewhere. Virtually everyday ,somewhere, he would speak. . His clear diction and perfect delivery stand out What superb English!. I used to listen to Kol Israel on a little Short Wave Radio on I think 19 Metre Band at 21 GMT . I reckon he was the closest orator to Churchill. Freda Keet used to read the news so beautifuly as well .The news in Yiddish by Michael ben Avraham was also great to listen to.It was beamed to Russian Jewry. Today I speak a little German from that foundation. Also the speeches of Prosecutor Gideon Hausner as translated during the Eichmann Trial were wonderful.
