Re: Global CitizensReader comment on item: Debating the Khalil Gibran International Academy Submitted by Diana (United States), May 19, 2008 at 19:23 Thank you Sofia for bringing up this very good point about "Global Citizens" vs. "American Citizens" or citizens of any other nation. Ms. Alamontaser is quoted in the NYTimes article as saying that by graduation, she hopes her students "would be ready, in Ms. Almontaser's words, to become 'ambassadors of peace and hope.'" (NYT 28 April). So why call these ambassadors of peace and hope "Global Citizens"? Why not call them "American ambassadors for peace an hope."?? Unless Ms. Alamontaser puts the global ummah over her alliance to the US (or any nation), in which case she should not accept US funding for her school, only funds from the global ummah. Let me just share the following quotation from the lyrics of the rap song '1924' by the group "Soldiers of Allah": "Educate our minds with Islam And Inshallah his disease of nationalism Will disappear" The founder of "Soldiers of Allah," by the way is Ali Ardekani (aka. Babi Ali), the same person who is featured in the NYTimes as the "new Bill Cosby" of the videoblog, who is trying to "alter Islam's face" and "produce videos that challenge stereotypes of Muslims." link to full article: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/08/us/08video.html?_r=2&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&adxnnlx=1210504838-9jx4Byo/N90WCcuo5NeWKQ&oref=slogin
