Feeding sharks once againReader comment on item: Thoughts on the Start of Israeli-Palestinian "Proximity Talks" Submitted by Joe K. (United States), May 10, 2010 at 13:55 A few days into talks and this headline: "Palestinians report first Israeli violation of talks to U.S." If the U.S. wants to send a goodwill gift to Iran, this is it. This country, by proudly shooting itself in the foot (i.e. force-feeding peace between Israel and Pals), is showing its weakness in global affairs. By focusing on the Israel-Pal dispute, we are using it as a red-herring diversion from the "real war" that even Nixon recognized 30 years ago. The Islamic powers, the ones with oil, in other words, can only laugh at our self-destructive charade, as we scramble to offer the Pals, who other Arab nations hate, more promises for whatever. To gain those country's respect, we should be doing the opposite. The absolute fastest way to force peace between them is for the U.S. to strongly support its ally, Israel, the only ME country that did not celebrate on rooftops and with gunfire after 9/11. We should do so without conditions of giving in to Palestinian demands for "more" of this, and "more" of that. Honesty would also help - the kind that explains that we are only in the region to secure the flow of energy, not to create mindless purple-thumbed democratic voters. Today Iraq again slaughters 67 of its own countrymen. The U.N. is hopeless and helpless. The U.S. dems think that continuing to feed the sharks swimming around Israel they will become nicer, and maybe swim away. When in fact, it's been obvious for 50 years that the opposite happens. The U.S. is again playing the role of neutral 3rd party, trying to be fair and impartial between a close ally and a terrorist supporting nation, to walk the middle road. Unfortunately, walking on the line looks absurd when with Hamas on one side, Hezbollah on the other, and a potential nuclear overseer watching from above. The U.S. must fish or cut bait. Rushing to pay tribute to Pals while Iran is threatening hegemony is a waste of time. Israel is not shark food, and will not help secure the flow of oil, most of which is going to Europe and China in any case.
