CivilityReader comment on item: Thoughts on the Start of Israeli-Palestinian "Proximity Talks" Submitted by Cherif El-Ayouty (Denmark), May 11, 2010 at 02:45 I have been following this "conflict" for most of the last 50 years and still find that the Palestinians refuse to sit down in one room face to face with the Israelis to negotiate a solution to their differences without any involvement from a third party. How can anyone reach a solution without facing the problem personally? Even the Red Indians sat down with the Yankees to negotiate. How on earth can the Palestinians afford to show their disdain to the Israelis by not facing the only entity that hold the key to any possible solution? I consider this as a complete lack of civility. Palestinians should join the side of reason, swallow their unjustified pride and sit alone with the Israelis. They owe it to their own population that has been bearing the brunt of the suffering. However, if I may voice my opinion, I believe that the Palestinian negotiators do not/cannot represent all of the Palestinians and thus know very well that they cannot approve any settlement as it will always be rejected by some other segments of their people and it is thus better for them never to reach a solution by themselves as they will be better off with a dictated settlement from the power holders.
