Obama proposals a disgraceReader comment on item: Thoughts on the Start of Israeli-Palestinian "Proximity Talks" Submitted by Richard Stoecker (United States), May 20, 2010 at 18:24 Political correctness is interfering with clear thinking in high places, a process which has been going on for some time, but never quite to the extent as now with regard to Israel and the Palestinians. Most of the conflicts in the Middle East have nothing to do with Israel and if neighboring Moslem countries were genuinely concerned about the difficulties of the Palestinians, there is much they could do to help of a constructive nature, but instead they prefer the tactical propaganda usefulness of keeping the Palestinians in discomfort and falsely blaming it on Israel. One side has not engaged in suicide or homicide bombing and the other has, one side is tolerant of other religions, while as soon as the Palestinians took control of Gaza, they made it clear that Jews were not welcome. President Obama, whatever achievements he may have in other areas, either is demonstrating a total lack of understanding of Israeli suffering and threats they face, or he is intentionally turning a blind eye to these things in a wrongheaded attempt to please Arab dictators and terrorists. I have seen Jewish statements protesting the present tactics of our president, but would like to see many more such protests by Christian writers. Some ministers on Christian television are speaking out, so maybe I am not looking in the right places for Chistian indignation regarding these issues. Moslem extremists have said "first the Saturday people, then the Sunday people." Christians should never forget that in many Moslem countries, even in Afghanistan where American blood has been spilled for their freedom, Moslems who convert to any other religion can face execution, and Christians have always experienced "dhimmitude" or second-class status and had to walk a tightrope in Moslem lands. I hope in his talks with Prime Minister Netanyahu, President Obama has listened with an open mind, but I am among those who are deeply suspicious of Obama's level of concern for Israel at the present time.
