Academic Freedom -- Academic Integrity

What is it in many who would profess a deep commitment to academic freedom that keeps them from binding with it the responsible concept of academic integrity?
One may want for both and expect that both be embraced by academic leaders who, given the weight of their authority, purport to be other than casual sophists.
