Islamism's added value is Islam

I feel that Sternberg overlooks an important contribution of the islamist-alliance that goes deeper than the shared-enemy link: Islamism adds Islam as a code-of-conduct, morality and everyday-culture to the ideology. Without it the left-ideology would be somewhat empty, would make no immediate change in practical life, it wouldn't tell you what to eat, what to do next morning. In this way, at least for the muslims, Islam can replace the all-embracing rule a totalitarian regime if taken to extremes. The described grassroots-democracy based on community meetings is very much the mosque-model of organizing the community along the lines of a shared ideology. If one is to envision a totalitarian regime to follow the left-ideology one day, the structure of existing islamic communities would be my first guess.
