been there, done thatReader comment on item: The Left's New Enemy: "Empire" Submitted by jobardu (United States), Jul 10, 2010 at 11:48 The left is the product of long disproven and dysfunctional philosophies. During the American Revolution the founding fathers knew their classics. They read Plato, Shakespeare, Locke, Hobbes and others. In essence, they sought to, and did, merge philosophy and human nature to produce a system that would work in this real world populated by carbon life forms. Idealistic philosophies have come and gone and proven to be what Hobbes called the "Leviathan State". The present PC liberal state is becoming nothing less than a totalitarian Leviathan. The media and academia are producing less diversity, not more, a model of what George Orwell described in 1984. The Nazi's were a prime example of a Leviathan state. Those that got out in time, exemplified by Leo Strauss, a philosopher capable of understanding what was going on, advocated a return to the classics to counter intellectual faddism. His work led to the "Great Books" program that informed all humanistic education until the start of the PC period in the early 1970's. What we have no is the flowering of a political system that doesn't combine humanism with intellectualism in a framework that establishes self-correcting processes. The United States constitution was aimed at having success in society determined by those organizations that best satisfied the will and needs of people in a framework that guaranteed the freedom needed to permit feedback and adaptation and hence success in the world. In that sense the United States is the true peoples republic. It wasn't broken and out PC liberal brothers and sisters are fixing it. But good!
