InsecurityReader comment on item: Has Islam been Hijacked by Radicals? Submitted by Erich W (United States), Dec 31, 2010 at 02:50 Yes, such an intercessor seems to stir deep doubts, which are well covered by dogmatic zeal, in the psychology of many Muslims that I have met. I have not met Christians who ask non-Christians whom they have just met, "What do you think of our Christ?" Nor do adherents of other faiths or philosophies ask, "What do you think of our Teacher?" If they believe, they are secure, and they look for other avenues to persuade people. Muslims, on the other hand, will often ask this question, "What do you think of our Prophet?" It comes across to me as betraying an insecurity within them. Somethings about their understanding of him, even though it is very romanticized and idealized, still bothers their conscience; so, when they can, they seek approval from the foreigner. They seem to have wrapped their ego around their Prophet's reputation in the eyes of others, and yet in their consciences they suspect something is very wrong. So they ask, "What do you think of our Prophet?" Once I was arrested in Iraq, in '91 (I exited the Safe Haven Zone). The Iraqi interrogators, in one of their offices pointed to the portrait of Sadam Hussein on their wall. They asked, "What do you think of our President?" What could I say? And why did they ask?
