400 years in super-dog years

Perhaps the good news is that, in this day and age, evolution is so accelerated by social technology that something that might have once taken 400 years can happen in less than a decade. The down side is that there is a danger that the volatility will destroy everything in its path.

I have little faith in the modernization of Arab nations. Though the richer (oil rich) ones seem to have the trappings of modern civilization, the tribal mentality and the strict limitations imposed by religious belief anc customs shows through the shiny veneer. The tribal thinking perpetuates and the governing bodies will continue to take advantage of and abuse their populations because they can, and because the common man believes that they have the right. Only fanatical Islam (at the direction of another type of dictator, Islamic as opposed to despot) can cause an uprising, and the results are what we are seeing today. Perhaps if they had more time during the day to actually think independently rather than pray and recite passages by rote, they would have more of a chance.
