U.S. Post War foreign occupationReader comment on item: Embassy Baghdad in Decline Submitted by Rich Mc (United States), Feb 8, 2012 at 14:45 I respectfully disagree with Dr. Pipes' point #3 - U.S has left forces & established military bases in various European & Asian countries for many years following WWII, not to mention S. Korea, post this conflict. While as a rule these forces have not meddled in the affairs of established democracies, they constitute an undeniable presence of strength and thus do not qualify as "honorable disengagement". Why we acceded so readily to the qualms of a fragile government in Iraq, leaving prematurely & jeopardizing all that was accomplished, is anyone's guess.
