Exactly rightReader comment on item: Stay out of the Syrian Morass Submitted by stanley b (United States), Jun 12, 2012 at 22:36 The less blood and treasure invested in the black hole of Middle Eastern mayhem the better. The only reason anyone intervened in Libya was oil for the EU motives. There is too much inconsistency (evident on the surface) as to why some conflicts merit intervention and some do not. The truth is, none of them merit intervention unless it was to take over the government and get some assets for ourselves, just like the wars in the good old days when nations fought and took spoils of war. Now that's a no-no for the larger western powers, but if the lowly ME does it, well, they are permitted because they don't know better? I for one would like to know the reason there was any support in Egypt from the west/US and what the political benefit was. The outcome of all of these lovely Arab springs are clearly the rise of Islamist extremist parties or hooligans to power instead of the previous corrupt leaders. No difference to the people, but big difference in terms of negotiating partners. The next few years will be interesting to watch. Submitting....
