Loved your post, SarahSue!Reader comment on item: After an Israeli Strike on Iran Submitted by sara (United States), Jul 1, 2012 at 17:06 I could not agree more with every word you wrote. I have been saying much of the same on this forum, to advocate for deterrence by show of force. I was reading an article in the Lebanon Star a few days ago and was amused by some of the comments questioning Hezbullah's usefulness because, as one commenter noted "We all know Israel doesn't believe in an eye for an eye. They believe in an eye for a head ...". Apparently the 2006 fiasco (militarily) had a silver lining, restoring deterrence. The second issue which you raise, and I have also been struggling to communicate, is the cultural differences between Arabs and Westerners and our arrogance in assuming that they think like us, value our values (see honor killings and Jihadists) or give a lick about what we consider sacrosanct. Treaties are just pieces of paper, it is only the deterrence factor that keeps the peace. I agree that if Israel can safely take out the Iranian nukes, she should do so, while the rest of the world cowers. There will be surprisingly little backlash, from Iran or from any neighboring Arab countries. The only catch is can she do it alone without support from US military. Lord knows she can't look to BHO for help. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
