Obama's masterstokeReader comment on item: Chuck Hagel at Defense? Submitted by Pez Dispenser (Israel), Jan 28, 2013 at 04:20 Let me say first that I'm far from sold on the idea of conflict with Iran, due to the unforeseen consequences. What I see here is that Obama gets to have a nominal Republican take a lot of the blame for slashing the military budget, feigns bipartisanship, flips the bird to Israel (and especially Bibi), and possibly gets to avoid any previous commitments on Iran. And the cherry on top is that pro-Israel Jews really can't come out strongly against this appointment due to the fear of the dual loyalty accusation (or of the political and/or social consequences of coming out against Obama if they are Democrats), so the only ones left to open their mouths are CUFI. You can say a lot of things about Obama, but not that he lacks talent in political maneuvering.
