Middle East now insignificantReader comment on item: Chuck Hagel at Defense? Submitted by myth (Germany), Jan 29, 2013 at 18:40 The combination of those three thoughts lead me to conclusion. Increasing political distance, disengaging from Israel, signifies a shift of foreign policy focus away from the Middle East as an entire region. With Israel as the anchor gone, the Middle East is floating into open seas, away from US foreign policy objectives. Maybe this is also true in a similar way for the American Jews, who see Israel more as a part of the Middle East than as the Jewish state. On the other hand, Israel still is the Holy Land in the eyes of Christians. Will Obama's second term display a completely inward looking presidency ?
