In my opinion, it is similar to the Jews in American government during WW2 that stood silent when Jews were being slaughtered in Europe out of fear of bringing any Jew-hating backlash to America. During that period it was in fact, and similarly, Christian members of American government that did more to aid the Jews and their plight in Europe. History on repeat i suppose.
