Settling the settlement controversyReader comment on item: Chuck Hagel at Defense? Submitted by Heraclitus (United States), Feb 6, 2013 at 03:20 Dr. Pipes, In discussions with friends with regards to the Israeli-Palestinian issue, I find that I would benefit from understanding the logic behind continued settlement building, I would appreciate if you could articulate a strong argument for why it benefits Israel at this time to continue building settlements, given the controversial and inflammatory impact. I just cannot see how this helps Israel on both a local and international level. Thank you. The Arabs have never offered to stop fighting in return for it. Hence, I see the Israeli building on the West Bank as a useful way to keep the pressure on for a resolution.
