"cautious optimism!"

This overused trope satisfies the innately human desire to be hopeful and positive in the face of dire threats. Islamists are more than cautiously optimistic that they are acquiring adherents and imbuing many of them with radical ideas involving violence murder mayhem and the ultimate goal of destroying the west ,Israel and the USA , and finally and triumphantly imposing strict sharia law on those who remain.

The struggle to prevent radicals from achieving their demonic goals will go on for decades but to me the radicals have the upper hand in that they appeal to the poorer disenfranchised masses and their birth rates ,most importantly, far exceed those of western nations, so that just by pure predominance of numbers they will eventually succeed and seize power not by force but by stealth.

That the west is led at present by leaders who are mainly left wing multiculturalists blind to any threats and actually aiding and abetting the aims of the sharia implementation supporters is only something that will become clear and acknowledged once it is far too late to turn the tide.

Already laws are being enacted in the west , Canada and the USA that support the inclusion of sharia in many societies; and on top of that our own laws are giving these radicals a free pass and even limiting basic rights such as free speech and any right to validly criticize islam which is now immune from debate lest one is attacked physically or threatened or killed as has happened a few times now. Seems to me that fear of reprisals is winning over democracy in a society still too comfortable in its perceived bullet proof armor of sybaritic lifestyles and immunity to reality.
