ConfusedReader comment on item: My Views of Islam and Islamism Submitted by Larry (United States), Dec 14, 2013 at 18:28 Whatever the early history of Islam, that does not tell us how the religion will evolve in the future. A most cordial thanks for your response, However, it does not address the concern that I raised. Predicting the future is always a dicey proposition, and I made no claim about the predictive value of my thesis. But even if a tolerant Islam that did not place "others" in at best a second class status were to emerge from the cesspool of what I take to be the predominant thinking in the Islamic world, I think a considerable risk of reversion to an intolerant Wahhabi-style faith lurks within the DNA of Islam. I suspect that risk exists in a way that it does not in any religious tradition with which I am familiar. Moreover, I think an informed response to my post might point the way to how the civilized world can best respond to the challenge of militant Islam. Instead, I find the West is led by people who prattle about how "authentic Islam" is dedicated to peace.
