Evolve? How?Reader comment on item: My Views of Islam and Islamism Submitted by Jason Pappas (United States), Jan 4, 2014 at 09:19 I have no doubt that Muslims can shrug off the martial aspects of the religion's early days. They can also remove politics from Islam. I have no doubt because this happened a century ago before the Islamic Revival. What is needed for this to happen today? You responded to a previous post by saying "defeat Islamism." That's an end, not a means. What is a moderate Muslim to do? They see radical Islam becoming entrenched in the Islamic establishments. They are intimidated by violent jihadi. If they are critical of Islamist philosophy, they'll be called Islamophobes with Western intellectuals in the lead. It looks grim. It appears that nothing can stop the descent into the sinking swamp of Islamism. Given the two Sunni/Shiite variants it appears that a major regional civil war is in the making. Can that be avoided? Perhaps after that Islamism will lose its appeal and we'll see some moderation. Perhaps!
