If Islamism is only a recent phenomenon then how do you explain its war and conquest of the whole of MENA and indeed was, subjugation, forced conversions, destruction of temples etc. in India itself since Islam first invaded the subcontinent over a thousand years ago?

There is no such thing as moderate Islam, Islamism etc. - there is just Islam, we (not Muslims) interpret Islam this way to make sense of the violence and intolerance towards non-Muslims that has always existed in Islam from day one.
