Yes, Support the Syrian Rebels - To What End?

With it appearing Assad is winning the civil war, is the objective you have in mind in saying the U.S. should support the Syrian Rebels, that by ensuring parity of strength between Assad and the Rebels, the war can be prolonged with the result that regardless of who ultimately wins, both sides will be greatly weakened and thus while, maintaining their hatred of the U.S. and Israel, neither will be able to act on that hatred?

If not that, then what?
