if al-Tabari did not know then it is a case of Allahu A3lamReader comment on item: Muslims Turn away from Islamism Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Jul 28, 2014 at 07:05 MWA you wrote Wouldn't it be likely that it simply relates to Nazareth (النَّاصِرَة) - which according to the Bible is where Jesus had his home base? Notice that I wrote "The Quranic Jesus" and notice that even al-Tabari had no clue about the etymology of the word and does it have anything to do with the word Nusra or victory which means that he does not know and his suggestion that it could have something to do with the name of the town of al-Nasira is only a guess because he makes it very clear that the plural of the word is al-Nasara and the singular would be Nasran (m) but the problem here is the singular for a person from al-Nasira would be Nusrani and not Nusran This is why I wrote that al-Tabari does not know and the funny thing is Muslims do not read their sources so what is a guess becomes a fact Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
