The US is in danger of great folly.Reader comment on item: Today's Iran Debate Misses the Point Submitted by Michael S (United States), May 29, 2015 at 02:39 David, the concerns you air are also mine: The chief outcome of a US-Iran agreement, on nukes or anything, will be a tendency to hamstring Israel when faced with an existential threat from Iran. I am concerned about this as an American, because I know that any country that trifles with Israel is inviting disaster. Consider the following: Nazi Germany: killed 5-6 million Jews, in an effort to exterminate the race. In return, Germany lost the war, the Nazis were driven from power, tried and hung, some 10 million Germans lost their lives, some 8-10 million more were permanently driven from their homes. The British Empire: Reneged on its commitment to establish Israel and Jordan as a Jewish state, then sided with Jordan in its attack on Israel. In return, the British lost their empire. Israel's Arab neighbors: Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, (and to some extent, Yemen and Libya): Instigated several wars of extermination against the Jewish state, and lost them all. Jordan and Egypt have since made peace with Israel; the others are living in a hell on earth. The "Palestinian" Arabs of Yesha: have persisted in a low-grade war against Israel. They have met with defeat after defeat, and are a cesspool of corruption, backwardness and underachievement. Russia: a major backer and arms supplier of Israel's enemies. They lost the Cold War against the Americans and allies, and have become an East European version of a banana republic. To their credit, they helped Israel during her war of independence; and when they did, they prospered and became a world power. The US has a history of ambivalence toward Israel; but we have solidly backed them in recent decades in the UN. Obama has been threatening to stop doing this; and if and when he goes through with it, my country will suffer greatly -- not by my hand, nor even Israel's; but by God's.
