Thank you for your suggestionsReader comment on item: The One-Minute Guide to Obama's Foreign Policy Submitted by Alexandros (United Kingdom), Nov 9, 2015 at 06:29 Dear Robert, Thank you for your reply. I do not see where i do not appreciate the heritage of my ancestors especially of Alexander's the Great, who i extremely admire. However, i think that you must have misread some parts of history or misinterpreted them. It is true that in ancient Greece were invented or applied all the constitutions that we pretty much have today. Democracy is not a religion and even though it's meaning is not fixed it has some limitations, for example Switzerland is the most democratic country and Turkey or Iran for example are abusing the term, because we are talking about tyrannies. On the other hand a republic is definitely not a democracy and i am not saying that democracy is a more appropriate constitution that a republic, because republic is constituted by the rule of one, the rule, of the few and the rule of the many at the same time. My ancestors gained their position in the Roman empire by explaining this to the Romans. This was the strength of Rome, the Republic. How much democratic a Republic is is very crucial however for it's success. This is what history has shown to us. Anyway, the main characteristic of Alexander the Great was not his empire, it was how he built his empire. He was a liberator from the Persian Empire! The greatest lessons my people have taught to this world is that freedom is the greatest value, and that the state is not a territorial Leviathan, the state is the polity and the polity is the people! Unfortunately in the West mainly in the Imperial Europe people have misinterpreted those lessons for specific reasons. In America however, i would like to remind you that the people revolted and fought for their freedom against the empires, why do they wish to make their own empire now? If we accept that this was necessary during the cold war and against the evil Soviet Union, keeping the same policy after the end of the Cold War was a disaster! If you wish to religiously read racist imperial books and if you wish to follow that lead then this is your choice, but you should know that the end is going to be probably similar! America has lost the characteristic of the liberator, of the benign power, when this is lost then the count down has started. All the books you suggested and all the writers have written of course many useful things and so has Said, if your purpose is to use those writings to submit people i am against, if your purpose is to use the writings to liberate people i am with you and i am sure that Alexander would have at least honoured this opinion if not agreeing with it as well! I honestly urge to study Alexander's history in more depth! He was the most brilliant person that has lived on Earth and he is called great because he was a liberator unlike the Mongols who were just destroying the world. Unfortunately the American leadership admires the Mongols....and not Alexander!
