The point I was trying to make (which I did not make too well at all) was that the antics of some Christians 900 years ago is absolutely no excuse for barbaric behaviour of many muslims in our world today. They want territory and power today as much as they did in the days of Andalusia and the greater Ottoman Empire - and for some of course they'll work toward achieving it by any means.

The Crusades seem to have occurred in part due to the territorial expansion of the islamic/Turkic empire and its threat to Europe - so it was a mix of religion and politics that made Europeans so keen to keep the great tide of the unwashed away from their patch.
