Interesting times ahead

Hi, Anne

I'm very glad to hear from you. I agree with all you said. At the end, you posed a question:

"Trump knows how to play this game but is this really a game we want to keep on playing?"

We like to think of it as a big "game"; but this is all actually a very real part of the world we now live in. People don't communicate the same way they did 30 years ago; and yes, Mr. Trump seems to have mastered the latest nuances -- just as Obama did before him. I was never attracted to the Clintons, so I can't make a useful comment about them. As for Bernie Sanders, he's a blast from the past; he reminds me of Gus Hall, the later leader of the Communist Party, USA. I voted for Gus for President in 1972, even thought I thought he was a little too conservative. That might be an indicator of how much my views have changed over the years.

I don't know how you came to the conclusion that I see Trump as a "Savior". I certainly don't; you must be thinking of someone else. No President is going to save us from the mess we've gotten ourselves into. Whether Donald, Hillary or Bernie wins, I expect the coming years to be years of continued war, famine, death and disease for much of the world. I also expect a year of exceptional heat, one of these years. I also expect an episode wherein the sun and moon and stars are greatly darkened, whether it be from volcanic ash or some other cause. I also see Egypt in for a rocky time, with the Nile drying up and all. All these things have foreign policy consequences for the US and its Western allies; and for other countries as well, such as China. No President will be able to "save" us from these things.

All in all, I think we live in interesting times.
