this particular German-Turkish flag does demonstrate assimilationReader comment on item: The Mundane Origins of Germany's Huge Turkish Population Submitted by myth (Germany), Oct 31, 2016 at 07:11 I do remember this particular flag and traced it back. The English wikipedia does not state the location and event that connects to this particular flag. The German wikipedia does: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Türkeistämmige_in_Deutschland#Integration The flag was on display in Berlin during the football worldcup of 2006 which Germany hosted (but did not win). Turkey did not qualifiy that year. Obviously the Turks felt that regardless of Turkey not qualifying that it was appropriate to signal their support both for the German squad, the effort to host the tournament and to highlight the importance of football as a common passion above all else. Maybe all critics of the flag should dig deep to retrieve their sense of humor. In the summer of 2006 Turks up and down the country demonstrated impressive hospitality to visitors coming from all over the world and represented the best this country has to offer.
