Ibn Manzur's Lisan al-Arab tells us that Jihad means Holy War and a Mujahid is a terrorist holy warriorReader comment on item: The Mundane Origins of Germany's Huge Turkish Population Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Nov 7, 2016 at 14:03 Our dear Iftikhar who needs to stick to Urdu wrote >Jihad means struggle for just cause. Really? Can you provide us kuffar with reference from Arabic language dictionaries? Oh wait a minute I have a link to Ibn Manzur Lisan al-Arab about the whole JHD root http://wiki.dorar-aliraq.net/lisan-alarab/%D8%AC%D9%87%D8%AF So do tell us our dear Iftikhar what does Ibn Manzur tell us about the meaning of the word al-Jihad! Hint: Holy war! Oh The lesser and greater Hadith? Here from an old post of mine Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Sep 17, 2016 at 07:32 I only read Islamic literary sources in Arabic and in this case the primary source would be Ibn Manzur's dictionary Lisan al-Arab and here is the root J-H-D and the meaning of the word Jihad from the earliest and most important classical Arabic dictionary Use googletranslate (It is not the best but you will get an idea about what the root J-H-D is all about) http://wiki.dorar-aliraq.net/lisan-alarab/%D8%AC%D9%87%D8%AF And then google and read Ibn Kathir's exegesis of Q2:216 and Q9:5 and you will realize that Jihad means only holy war BTW never use translations Read the text in Arabic and use a translation tool as Muslims are known to edit texts in translations to English for obvious reasons More? As for the Hadith about the "smaller/lesser jihad" and the "greater jihad" which is often quoted by liars from Pakistan and India and is never quoted by Arabs (who know very well that jihad means holy war) This hadith is of no use because 1. This hadith is not included in any of the authoritative collections of the Ahadith 2. This hadith when you read it is regarded as spurious Oh you don't believe me? Read Peters Islam and Colonialism page 118 https://www.amazon.com/Islam-Colonialism-Studies-English-Literature/dp/9027933472 Only way to fight a lie is to expose the liar with what the Arabs call al-Daleel wa al-Burhan or with evidence from their primary Islamic literary sources Now feel free to prove me wrong >I have been engaged in Jihadi activities This means that as per Ibn Manzur you are an admitted مجاهد and here is the meaning of the word from elmaany dictionary http://www.almaany.com/ar/dict/ar-ar/%D9%85%D8%AC%D8%A7%D9%87%D8%AF/ And مجاهد or Mujahid means يحارب or he who fights (holy war) Not my words > for the last 40 years in the field of education. Oh next? From Sheikh al-Azhar and his definition of the word Jihad Why the lies and delusions Do tell me Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
