Two comments:

1. "The make-nice school of diplomacy having clearly failed to arrest Erdoğan's ambitions, the time has come to make clear to the Turks how much they will lose in terms of trade, military assistance, and diplomatic support unless they quickly change course."

It is not enough to "make clear" to the Turks how much they will lose in terms of trade, military assistance, and diplomatic support unless they quickly change course. How many times American "making clear" was not followed by actions?

2.America should "encourage Israelis to impress on the Palestinians the need for them unequivocally and permanently to recognize Israel as the Jewish state."

Again, this is about words, not actions. And why America cannot do it itself instead of encouraging Israel? Israel does not have any tools acceptable to America and Europe for encouraging Palestinians to do anything of essence.
