An intellectual against Islam has already started

Dear Dr Pipes,

Your reader Robert suggested that there might be a need to put Islam and Islamism on the defensive because there is evidence that they breed suicide bombing and oher such violent behavior (my paraphrasing). I think an intellectual crusade against Islam is already going on. Millions of people around he world in different social forums challenge Islamic stands every day.

As I have said many time on this forum, by not distinguishing between state and religion, Islam does itself the biggest disservice. If Islam is a socio-political system, any observer of Islam can challenge it in the same way as they would criticize any other socio-political system. If you can criticize British law, American law, Hindu law, capitalism, communism, fascism or what have you, you should be able to challenge Islamism in exactly the same way.

And people are coming forward to do so. Every person who values free thought ought to ask himself if free thought is subdued in Islamic societies and should do and say something to eradicate the situation. That will be the modern crusade.
