Students of history don't have to read Lewis' book and I'll be very surprised if Bibi wasn't already aware that prolonged conflicts in which there is neither a clear winner or clear loser only enhance regional instability.

As many have noted, since WW2 many more conflicts have ended in stalemate than with a decisive outcome. The exceptions which come to mind are the French defeats in Indo-China and Algeria and the American defeat in Vietnam, if not militarily then certainly politically.
