We must change the way we do thingsReader comment on item: Shaken Out of Complacency by COVID-19? Submitted by Ali Baba (United States), Apr 11, 2020 at 13:47 Just saw a tweet that said the following: "My urgent care visit cost $285. Mila just spent $1185 in the ER. We both pay $1400 a month for health insurance. Our doctors are begging for PPE on social media. We are a complete failure." One might expect this from Soviet Russia or Communist Cuba. But how is the richest, most advanced, most enlightened nation not prepared for this? We cannot compare to Sweden or Italy or the UK or even to Canada because in those countries, their healthcare is guaranteed and at minimal cost due to government subsidies. In the US, you have to have a 6-figure salary to be able to see a doctor. In fact, I know people who have 6-figure salaries and still have to rely on urgent care for their healthcare needs. Part of that is millennial laziness, but in no other developed country do people have to shop for doctors "within network".
