Disgusting and incongruent populistReader comment on item: What to Make of Éric Zemmour? Submitted by David (Israel), Dec 1, 2021 at 10:18 In his desire (shared by myself) for further rise of popular sentiment and support for civilizationism in Europe, Dr. Pipes unfortunately makes the same mistake as when he originally supported Donald Trump. The similarity is evident in Dr Pipes initially tolerating the disgusting personal style and twisting of reality by both of these politicians. Just as Dr Pipes has apparently backed off his support of Trump, he is (and even more so) likely to do so with Zemmour. The idiotic rudeness (and no, this is NOT typical of Parisian waiters) exhibited by Zemmur when Dr. Pipes approached him in Budapest appears to be a characteristic but minor fault compared to those not mentioned in the article. Here is a small sample. Zemmour attempts to rewrite history by defending the Vichy regime of Nazi collaborators, justifying their sending Jewish refugees straight to the Nazi externmination camps. He says this is how Vichy saved the "real French" Jews... Zemmour says that since Israel has an atomic bomb, Iran should also be allowed to have one. What a perfect pearl of antisemitic, anti-Western, pro-Jihadist logic. He has has compared a recent government initiative to facilitate the integration of transgender children in school to the experiments of Dr Mengele, a Nazi physician famed for his atrocities on concentration camps prisoners during World War II. Among his other ahistoric comments, he has questioned the innocence of Alfred Dreyfus, who was falsely convicted for treason in a notorious example of 20th century antisemitism. Seriously, Dr Pipes? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. For complete regulations, see the "Guidelines for Reader Comments". Daniel Pipes replies: I know all the problematic issues you raise and alluded to them in my brief analysis. But you have it wrong about my response to Trump; I vehemently opposed him, voted for Gary Johnson in 2016, and only came around reluctantly to vote for him in 2020 when I saw that his policies were so good, despite his horrible character.
