The scenario will never come trueReader comment on item: How Muslims Can Catch Up Submitted by Prashant (United States), Jul 30, 2022 at 19:49 Dear Dr Pipes, I think the scenario in which Islam catches up with the west in Science, Technology, economic output, etc. presented by Jack Sheridan will never come true. To be scientifically and economically advanced, Islamic world will have to study science and that brings tolerance. It is an accident of history that oil was found in the lands controlled by Muslims. This oil wealth sustained Islam for 70 or 80 years. Islamism of the last seven or eight decades was financed and sustained by this oil wealth. Iff this source of revenue had not been there, Muslims would have had to change their ways. Societies that send their children to religious schools for many years, suppress women, do not give their populations the freedom to think freely, etc. cannot be competitive in today's world. Islam sustained itself for 1400 years by plundering and subjugating other nations. That method of revenue generation is not available to any one any more. As the oil money dries out, Muslims will have to change their ways to remain competitive. Tolerance for others will be both the cause and the effect of this change. .
