My heuristic about the secular auto rats.Reader comment on item: How Muslims Can Catch Up Submitted by Prashant (United States), Aug 4, 2022 at 02:06 Dear Dr Pipes, Your reader Boris from Australia wondered if certain maladies of theocratic Islamic regimes also apply to Islamic societies ruled by secular auto rats. This question is very pertinent. I use a heuristic to determine if I need to give any extra slack to secular autocrats of the Islamic world. I immediately go to the source and refer to the full name of the country and its constitution. If the world Islamic occurs in the name of the country, it gets no leeway from me. If the constitution of the country declares that its purpose is to protect Islam, then also it gets no leeway. I recently used this heuristic to evaluate the (so called) Palestinian Authority in the following message to this forum: https://www.danielpipes.org/comments/284201 To me, autocratic Islamic nations are doubly bad: because they are theocracies and because they are autocratic. Most Islamic countries qualify! Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
