Caliphate - Sharia LawReader comment on item: The Caliphate: Updates Submitted by Heather Clark (Canada), Dec 14, 2005 at 02:32 Dalton McGuinty is our premier in Ontario. He may be subversive, an epic liar, his actions giving the Liberal party a new name, "The Fibberals". However, Mr. McGuinty did vote down the idea of including Sharia Law in the courts of Ontario. I don't like Mr. McGuinty. However, I must raise my hand to the chalkboard and give him a line for striking out Sharia Law in our province. As I said in an earlier post - a brief summation: Come to Canada. Settle in. Enjoy the freedom our country has provided you. But there is a proviso. Don't bring the laws of your country here. They're not welcome. The West is a democracy. If you don't like our way of living life, go back to your own country. You can't have it both ways. If your'e a new-comer to Canada/USA? Learn the language. That would be English. Assimilate yourself in our great land. Recognize the differences of the country you came from to the one you now have decided to settle in. We're an odd bunch for sure. Women and men are equal in the West, have equal rights. We're also decidedly chivalrous. (Look up the meaning if necessary). If you're seated on a bus and an elderly woman gets on, it is customary to give up your seat, no matter your sex. It is done out of respect. Do so. The same goes for a pregnant woman, or a woman with a baby. Women are respected in the West Don't regard me sexist, the same regard goes for elderly men. We have our slovenly lot, but again, the West is highly respectful of its environment. Don't empty your pockets on the street. Although it may be a 20ft walk to your incinerator, do dump your garbage there, not over your balcony into the wooded ravine you like to look over in spring/summer. Why? Because during winter, we call them the "bag trees". Those are the trees that hold the last of the garbage you threw over your balcony during the summer. Detritus doesn't go away. Just because its out of your sight doesn't mean it "disappeared". Welcome to the West. It is not polite to piss/defecate in the street. Public washrooms abound. Don't litter. Just because you don't see a garbage can doesn't mean you can't hold your litter until you get home. We have people who are paid to pick up the crap citizens dump, but that doesn't mean you're keeping them in a job. Its about responsibility. Be responsible for yourself. You came to the West, why? Remember the "why". Best, Heather Clark Toronto, Canada Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
