Two small reasons to hopeReader comment on item: The Caliphate: Updates Submitted by Germain (Canada), Dec 23, 2005 at 14:08 Like most of the readers I am appaled by the blindness of Occident in regard to the Islamist threat... But still, there are maybe two reasons to keep hope...1-First, the muslim immigrants population is not the same size in every host country and is not growing at the same pace everywhere. For example in Europe, France will most probably be first European country to become islamic but that would be a warning for the rest of Europe, where right-wing will take power and start massive expulsion and probably...ethnic cleansing. It will be a very ugly thing to see but still the biggest responsibles for this future tragedy are those past and actual people with influence (politicians, businessmen, lobbyists, intelectuals etc...) that contribute to put the future generations in desparate situation. However, one must not forget the possibility that a muslim nation with nuclear weapon (Iran and Pakistan) might threat any occidental country that would harm muslims in their land... If those muslim nuclear powers populations are brainwashed enough for martyredom, they won't be afraid of retaliation. 2-Second, WHO will run this Caliphate (if it would be a one-state empire)? Such Caliphate would have to include Mecca, and to be hold by a minimal military force. The most probable military force behind would be either Pakistan or Iran. Pakistanis have the advantage of being sunnis like most of the muslim immigrants in Occident, but shiite Iran will very unlikely submit to this sunni rule and Pakistan would not tolerate an "heretic" disturbance force between its territory and Mecca... And as we can see now in Irak, it is unlikely that the sunnis will submit to a shiite ruled-caliphate... Let's hope this conflict between sunnis and chiites will slow down the path to the Caliphate and Occidentals will take advantage of it.
