Prof. Shibley Telhami and his "facts"

Months ago in an interview on Public Television, Telhami told Gwen Ifill, in her interviewing him, that the presence of American troops in Iraq was comparable to the British occupying the colonies prior to the War of 1776.

I am still trying to recover from the shock that Ifill didn't respond in shock at this totally shameful and outrageous characterization of the sacrifice our troops have made in giving their lives and destroyed bodies to the liberation of the Iraquis from their ex-governing tyrant.

Telhami should be ousted from teaching and broadcasting this slander as being ignorant and unqualified in his comparison of our troops presence in Iraq, regardless of whether one is in favor or against our liberation efforts. Statements of gratitude from the Iraquis to our armed forces and condemnation of the acts of the insurgents are virtually non-existent, with their total amnesia as to how life was under Sadam, as though their freedom came from just getting up one morning and they tossed Sadam out.

That Telhami could even think of such a concept throws many doubts on his understanding of a simple phenomenon and questions his qualifications to occupy a position of a teacher.
