ClarificationReader comment on item: Keeping Muslim Girls under Wraps in France Submitted by Taimur (United States), Jan 12, 2006 at 02:05 ... how does one break this down for you?I brought Hinduism up to counter your point about the wikipedia article you were referring to - to SHOW that you didn't even read the whole article you cite (and how cited a piece to suggest somehow Muslims were responsible for Sati - your own quoted article went against your position ... ). And as I said I never attacked Hinduism - the first time I mentioned it was to say that if they do something x (not bad) due to, say, Hinduism, are you going to bring in Islam too. The second time the reference was made again as another example. Numerous times I said, I'm not blaming Hinduism - but I think because of certain insecurities, one tends to believe that I'm trying to shift the blame. This simple point is beyond the commentator's comprehension, I suppose (sigh). My faith is certainly fine, as are all faiths. If yours is evolving (or has evolved), it's a great thing. My point of bringing religion was not to make a comparison (if you care to and know how to read something), but to illustrate a flaw in logic in the original French girls veil post by Dr Pipes, and the "profound meaning" in the whole enterprise. That's what I said to another commentator, too, who was objecting to the teenager example. But somehow, I think it was seen as an attempt to say that Islam was not at fault. These are two separate and distinct arguments - and if you can't see the obvious difference, I'm afraid you cannot be helped. ----- Interesting enough, all responses have shown the same flaw in reasoning - and interestingly enough, everybody who posted on the board thought that I was attacking their religion, or trying to commend Islam. Very interesting. My apologies for any mind stimulation. Over & out. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
