Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Article 18)

Reader comment on item: Blaming Islamic Apostasy Laws on Western Imperialism

Submitted by Jack Daniels (Malaysia), Apr 4, 2006 at 01:18

Most muslims/Muslim countries/muslim organisations have villified the West, blaming it for ill-treating muslims/islam and not respecting muslims' human rights e.g. headscarf issue in France, Muhammad cartoons in Denmark/West, Guantanamo, Iraq, Afghanistan, blah, blah, while getting away with criminal violations of Human/Non-Muslims' rights in their own countries, such as Abdul Rahman's has shown.

It's high time the people / Human rights organisations in the West start a campaign to pressure Muslim countries/organisations of muslim countries (e.g.OIC, based in Geneva) to adhere unreservedly to Article 18 of UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights (which I've reproduced below), because non Muslims in Muslim countries face harm if they dare open their mouths on this.

When all Muslim countries unreservedly accept Article 18 (right to convert out of Islam), I think this acceptance will be the true beginning of "moderate Islam" and not the "Religion of Peace" propaganda we get now.

( UN Article 18. - Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.)
