Reader comment on item: Blaming Islamic Apostasy Laws on Western Imperialism

Submitted by lekan (Nigeria), Apr 29, 2006 at 16:36

i write with respect to the ver y issue of apostasy which has caused some ripples in the minds of so many including who pseudo islamic scholars both in the islamic and the western anal. firstly, i would want to see it from this angle which is that if the mundane authority causes a law to execute a person for commiting an offence,do we pick it to pieces the way we do to most islamic topics which have arisen for debate? i would want to appreciate the concern of commentators on this issue but i must not also fail to add that it is strictly a muslim thing and should be left in our dormain for we should not be seen or heard pontificating on a subject matter which is entirely far from realm.if the islamic code dictates what we should do, no matter what debate that goes on on it , in my opinion, it still amounts to comtempt for this religion of ours,al islam.

however i would want to say that the issue on the table is not whether the law should be implemented or not for it is meant for the muslims alone and not for none believers, it should be left to them to decide, i want to say that even the christian religion is replete with instances of execution of apostate and it was even practised till the final collapse of the church rule in europe. one's memory is the fresh with what happened to people like gallileo and others like him .Even the jews themselves can not deny the fact that there is an injunction relating to apostasy and the attendant punishments to be meted out culprits .

in a more objective manner, i do not see any abnormality in it . i must also concede that the manner of the execution might be sordid but i can understand as a fellow being but the will of God has to be done and be seen to be done. finally , is that since it is the injunction of God meant to guide the true believers and not meant for hypocrites and non/unbelievers in this world, we can only say at this end that the words of God will surely come to past on day .
