The importance of allowing Islamic "reformers" more air timeReader comment on item: Blaming Islamic Apostasy Laws on Western Imperialism Submitted by Katherine Mclean (United States), Apr 7, 2006 at 22:02 M. Safi must understand that currently in Western societies Islamic reformers may speak at length about their ideas on reforming society. It is called open democracy...I know, I know, a new concept but... In any case. we will all listen somewhat politely and then inform you and your Islamist compatriots that thank you very much but we'll take a pass on Sharia. But thanks for your effort and participation in the democratic process. If we all should lose our minds simultaneously, we might call you back to explain once more how the Islamic way is the best. On the other hand, I would not be able to breath in a burka and anyway, obviously I am much too uppity, so I'd be one of the opposition. Count on it.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
